This is the most eloquent piece I’ve seen on why sites like Twittervision are so… comforting, I guess.
Can’t say that I agree with everything in this article but I think the argument is valid. The value judgements, well… perhaps it’s because I grew up in this “vapid” generation but I see some value in participatory media that this gentleman does not.
An extension of a conversation I was having last night; essentially, people want “stuff”, and digital objects are not “stuff”.

I used to listen to Dave Winer’s podcasts in the “early days” of podcasting. It was sort of like a really good late night conversation; every once in a while a gem emerges from the jokes and listless talk that you really hope you’ll remember the next day. This is one of those little gems.
I know this is for a conference but I love that it’s tagged “newsroom”. I can see it; there’s the opportunity for interaction without the necessity of it. All the action is right there but all it would take is a pair of headphones and a really great song and you’re in your own world.
This particular link is to scans of the original manuscript, notes, and other materials surrounding one of my favorite books ever, Stranger in a Strange Land. Purchasing the PDFs will run me about $40 by the end. I’m tempted to purchase them once a month or less and then get them nicely printed and bound once I’m done.
